Compare Workbooks
A side-by-side workbook differ that lists every cell whose value differs between two workbooks (or two specific sheets) and writes the result to a "Comparison Results" sheet with hyperlinks back to each side.
When to use it
- Confirming what changed between two versions of the same financial model
- Reviewing a vendor's edits before merging changes back into your master
- Spot-checking a renamed or copied workbook for stray differences
- Comparing one sheet of one workbook to a same-named or differently-named sheet in another
How it works
- 1Open Compare Workbooks from the More Tools dropdown.
- 2Pick the first workbook: a file path, an already-open Excel workbook, or "this workbook."
- 3Pick the second workbook the same way.
- 4Choose Compare entire workbook to compare every sheet by name, or pick one sheet from each side.
- 5Click run - SkySuite walks both used ranges, lists every cell with a different value, and creates a "Comparison Results" sheet in the active workbook with hyperlinks to each diff on each side.
Tips & shortcuts
- Sheets that exist on only one side are still listed in the report, with the missing side annotated
(SHEET MISSING)in red. - Each difference row gets a hyperlink - click a cell address to jump straight to the source cell in its workbook.
- Differences are grouped per sheet using Excel's row outlining so you can collapse a sheet's diffs in one click.
- The compare only looks at cell values - not formulas, formatting, or charts.
