Excel Workbook Linking

Link cells, ranges, and shapes from Excel into your PowerPoint slides and keep them in sync. Refresh links individually or in bulk, repoint to new source files, or break links when the deck is final.

When to use it

  • Pulling NOI, cap rate, or IRR figures from an underwriting model into a pitch deck.
  • Embedding a rent roll or returns table that should always reflect the latest model.
  • Linking a chart or shape from Excel that needs to update with every assumption change.
  • Switching the source file when a model is moved, renamed, or versioned.
  • Breaking every link before sending the final deck outside the firm.

How it works

  1. 1
Insert content from Excel into your slide - SkySuite links are created from your source workbook.
  2. 2
Use Refresh All Links on the SkySuite ribbon to pull the latest values from every source workbook.
  3. 3
Use Refresh Selected Links to update just the selected shape or table.
  4. 4
Open Link Manager to see every link in the deck, its source, and the last update timestamp.
  5. 5
Use Locate Source to jump to the cell or shape in Excel that a link points to.
  6. 6
Use Break All Links to convert every linked value into static content before sharing the final deck.

Tips & shortcuts

  • If a source workbook has moved, the relink dialog can apply the same path replacement to every matching link at once.
  • Refreshing a chart or shape preserves the live Excel formatting where possible.
  • Open the Navigate pane to see every linked item grouped by slide - quicker than scanning the deck.
  • Breaking links is irreversible inside the deck - keep an unbroken copy if you may need to re-update later.
